A crochet sunflower is pure sunshine in yarn, and crochet tulips are the easiest way to make a spring bouquet that never droops. Both patterns below use only basic stitches, both have row trackers you can tick off as you go, and both work flat as appliqués or on stems for bouquets.
The sunflower is a flat circle center with twelve pointed petals worked straight off it. There’s no sewing petals on one by one.

Flat sunflowers make wonderful appliqués: sew one onto a tote, a denim jacket, or a crochet bag.
The tulip is three oval petals worked around a short chain, then overlapped around a stem. It’s the simplest 3D flower there is.
You chain 7, then work stitches along one side of the chain, three stitches into the last chain to turn the corner, then back along the other side. Graduated stitch heights (sc, hdc, dc) make the oval.

Arrange the three petals around the top of a stem so each one overlaps about half of the next, with the 3-sc end at the top. Using the tails, stitch the petal bases to each other and to the stem, then add a second row of stitches about a third of the way up to hold the cup shape.

Real tulips come in almost every color, so this is the perfect scrap-yarn flower. Lilac and berry pink look soft and modern, butter yellow and white look fresh and Scandinavian, and a red petal with a white tip (just change color for the 3 sc at the top) looks strikingly realistic.
